Increasing Risk

The way you are currently drinking could risk your health and well being. You may experience the following:

  • more likely to have accidents
  • little or no energy
  • changes in mood
  • difficulty sleeping
  • high blood pressure
  • difficulties with your sex life
  • relying on alcohol to do everyday things

Drinking at this level could also increase your risk of other health issues such as:

  • problems with your liver
  • cancers in the breast, mouth or throat

Our Advice

Here are some tips for reducing your alcohol intake:

  • Have a few ‘drink-free’ days. Sign up to the ‘One You’ drink free days app
  • If you live in Sandwell you are also able to access the Lower my Drinking app, which can identify how much you are drinking and offers advice on how to cut down. The app can be downloaded through Google Play or iTunes and is available in both English and Polish. The Lower my Drinking app website and questionnaire can also be accessed here
  • Alternate alcoholic drinks with soft drinks or water
  • Avoid drinking in large groups
  • Go out for a walk or plan another physical activity at times you would usually drink
  • Don’t drink on an empty stomach – drink just after or with a meal
  • Limit the amount of time you spend with ‘heavy-drinking’ friends
  • When you do drink, set yourself a limit and stick to it
